Warner Brothers | Troy
Troy, for Warner Brothers, is one of Europe's largest motion capture projects to date. The film, starring Brad Pitt, was released in May 2004.
The production was seeking to give the battle scenes a sense of epic realism. In addition to vast CGI armies the Director also wanted to show the full drama and spectacle of the1,000 ship Greek fleet that set sail to bring Helen home.
To enable the animation to be as realistic as possible, it was necessary to replicate the physical aspects of many original sets and locations in our own studio. To achieve this, artemdigital's sister company Artem Physical built a range of props and environments, including a full scale Brireme (Greek war galley), to give the actors and stuntmen a true sense of how things would have been. To handle the large volumes of data recorded, and to ensure quality was not compromised, artemdigital used its proprietry Geometrix software throughout the project.
Data were supplied to Framestore-CFC and MPC for incorporation into numerous shots in the movie. With as many as 60,000 CG Greeks and 40,000 CG Trojans required for the battle scenes, many of them nearly full screen height, this is an "epic" movie in every sense of the word.
